Committed to developing low-carbon, high-performance alternatives to fossil fuel plastics, we teamed up with agricultural cooperative Interval – through our joint-venture AMP – to create a family of compounds that draw on the amazing properties of hemp. Strong. Light. Carbon-Negative.

NAFILean STIFF 

NAFILean STIFF is the high-rigidity member of our NAFILean family, engineered for structural applications that require stiffness and dimensional stability, plus lower environmental impact.

NAFILean Vision

NAFILean Vision makes the biomass and natural fibres at its heart visible with different grains, colours and textures. Ideal for demanding designers looking for low-carbon, high-aesthetic materials for visible structural applications.

NAFILean-PERF

A high-performance biocomposite combining natural hemp fibres and recyclability for structural parts subject to high mechanical stress.

NAFILean-R

An ultra-low carbon, high-performance biocomposite combining hemp-based biomass and 100% recycled polypropylene for structural applications.

With CO2-sequestering hemp – and recycled PP – NAFILean helps keep carbon emissions right down.

As global warming continues to create havoc, our mission to develop circular, low-carbon materials began with NAFILean. We set ourselves the target of reducing emissions by at least 20%. For some of the compounds, this % is already a lot higher. Made with a mix of fully recycled polypropene and hemp, NAFILean-R produces just 0.2 Kg CO2 eq/Kg. That’s 90% less than its virgin equivalent.

3 grades of NAFILean have already had their Partial Carbon Footprint certified by SGS. And more are on their way to certification!

Bringing NAFILean to life from hemp plant to high-performance compound

Launched in 2013, after much high-intensity R&D, NAFILean was the very first compound in our portfolio. Drawing on the extensive expertise of Interval’s hemp subsidiary Eurochanvre, we harvest, bale and defibrate the hemp. Ready to be made into a high-performance compound (along with our PP) following a top-secret recipe! Next stop? Granulation and injection to become top rolls, inserts, air ducts and more.

Hemp: a stunning comeback for these low-carbon, low-density fibres.

Hemp is a pretty amazing plant. Used for centuries in everything from ropes to sails, it fell into decline before being revived in the 1990s thanks its superpowers: carbon negative, high yield, low water requirements and soil friendly with no need for chemical fertilisers or pesticides. Plus, the fibres are exceptionally strong and durable. What’s not to like?
